IMC announces strategic growth plan for Las Vegas Gift + Home Market

LAS VEGAS -- International Market Centers announced a three-phase plan, beginning in 2013, to strategically evolve the Las Vegas market and position it as the most comprehensive buying platform for buyers in the Western United States.
The three-phase plan includes introducing new product categories such as tabletop, home textiles and lifestyle collections, growing existing categories and re-merchandising presentations.
"This plan re-imagines and re-aligns the presentation of gift and home décor at the Las Vegas Market. By strengthening existing resources, launching new categories and enriching the presentation of better goods, we will create an unparalleled marketplace for gift and home products in the western United States," said Dorothy Belshaw, president Gift + Home Décor.
Beginning in winter 2013, IMC will designate thirteen floors, comprising 1.7 million square feet, in Building C as the destination for gift and home décor resources at Las Vegas Market. As part of this re-positioning, IMC will present a collection of high-end home décor resources on C3 as an extension of the fully-leased B3 initiative launched this week at market. Directly connected by an inter-building bridge, this adjacent accessories assortment on C3 will facilitate the buying experience for better home décor merchandise at Las Vegas Market, according to a press release.
"This new merchandising strategy creates a clear and compelling identity for Las Vegas Market, both as an established venue for the furniture industry, as well as a dynamic, rising marketplace for the gift and home industry," said Robert J. Maricich, CEO, IMC. "This multi-dimensional platform is truly relevant for today's cross-category buyers and suppliers, and offers opportunities to explore new distribution channels, such as hospitality and design."
Phase One strategic plans continue at the summer 2013 Las Vegas Market with the introduction of two new categories.
"c-ONE" - a new, cross-category curated showcase on the first floor of Building C, will include tabletop, gift, and home resources in both permanent and temporary presentations. Also debuting in summer 2013, the Lifestyle Collection on C10 will feature suppliers of on-trend resources from in-demand categories such as fashion accessories, personal care and fragrance, stationery, juvenile merchandise, and technology accessories. According to the market entity, these new category presentations will create compelling "neighborhoods" of high-end merchandise throughout the building.
Part of the c-ONE initiative includes a special tabletop collection featuring customized showroom spaces prominently positioned in World Market Center's Building C Lobby Level. Representatives from Alessi, Kim Seybert, Match, Michael Aram, Mottahedeh, Nambe and Vietri gathered in June to discuss market potential and offer strategic and tactical feedback to the plans. According to a release, the group expressed enthusiasm and support for the project citing benefits including access to an established and growing Western U.S. and international buyer base, cross-category opportunities within the home furnishings and furniture markets, and exposure to new hospitality design distribution channels.
"It was gratifying to receive such a positive response, as well as such candid feedback, from this group of industry thought leaders", Belshaw said. "They expressed support for our plans to transform Las Vegas into the premier western gift and home marketplace, and helped develop a compelling strategic plan to create a new industry paradigm for cross-category merchandising, dramatic resource presentation, and synergistic business opportunities."
IMC also plans to expand its home décor resources on C4 and C5 with specialty home textiles resources. Also, Las Vegas Market will launch gourmet, kitchenware and casual tabletop categories on C11.
As part of the third phase, Las Vegas Market's tradeshow component, which has experienced steady growth over the last three years, will relocate to C12 and C13. This relocation will allow for expansion opportunities on C14 to include new merchandise categories to further enhance the overall assortment.
IMC also announced that the 2012 winter Las Vegas market will take place Jan. 28 through Feb. 1, 2013, and the summer edition will be held July 29 through Aug. 2, 2013. In 2014, the winter show will be held Jan. 27-31, 2014, and the summer market July 28 through Aug. 1, 2014.
These selected market weeks for 2013 and 2014 were chosen to optimize buyer and exhibitor opportunities and also extend World Market Center's strategic partnership with SURFACES, an event for the floor coverings industry.
As an extension of its three-phase plan, IMC has partnered with Eller Enterprises to produce a first-of-its-kind executive conference for the gift and home industry titled Content. The two-day event taking place the last two days of the winter 2013 Las Vegas market, will offer compelling programming and networking opportunities for invited participants.
Content, geared toward owners, CEOs, and presidents of gift and home businesses, will address financial, operational and global issues impacting individual operations, as well as the industry overall. Subjects will include the effects of China's economy and the Euro crisis on the Gift and Home industry, acquisition strategies, preparing a company for sale, building corporate culture, global economy and other topical issues impacting the U.S. gift and home marketplace.
"This will be the first conference of this type in our industry that will address topics with world-renowned speakers and experts taking the discussions to a much higher level than ever before," said conference organizer Randy Eller, president of Eller Enterprises. The sessions begin with presentations from leading global economists on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, and continues through Friday, Feb. 1, with a series of breakout sessions, panel discussions and other topical presentations.
