Selection drives online searches for home products

New York – Although consumers shop online for just about every type of product today, the rationale of doing so varies by category, according to a new report by consultant firm WSL Strategic Retail.
Online shoppers for home goods are pursuing selection, looking to “satisfy their passion for something new or unique, or to just be sure they’ve seen it all.”
Selection is also the motivating factor for online shoppers of books, music, toys, computers, electronics, fashion, jewelry, fragrance, skin care and greeting cards, the firm reported.
Cosmetic and clothing shoppers are also seeking out brands, while consumers of electronics, computers, toys, travel and entertainment also expect peer reviews.
The overarching reasons to shop online remain price, saving time and free shipping, said WSL. However, the firm recommends category-specific marketing strategies to respond to shifting consumer expectations.
