Fashion and Accessories Shows Present Spring/Summer 2008 
New York Accessories The Show,Moda Manhattan and Fame will showcase more than 3,000 juried collections of accessories and RTW at the Javits Convention Center, January 6–8 in New York City. Buyers attending the shows will find not only the fashion trends for the spring-summer season, but may also participate in a number of special amenities and giveaways including free breakfast and lunch, bottled water, massages, totes and more. LA Mart Celebrates with Events and Showcases New Tenants
Los Angeles — The LA Mart will kick off its 50th Anniversary year during the Los Angeles Gift & Home Furnishing Market, January 15–21, with a full slate of programming and events intended to energize and educate buyers. Among the highlighted showroom events are meet-and-greets with celebrities Kathy Ireland and Betty White, and a late night shopping evening and cocktail reception to celebrate the newly redecorated main lobby.

SFIGF Celebrates San Francisco; Seminars Focus On Green, Museum and Wine
White Plains, NY — The San Francisco International Gift Fair (SFIGF) will focus on the best qualities that the Bay Area has to offer and will focus on green, museum and vineyard-related programming, and offer exciting shopping and dining events, including “Night in the Castro” and an art gallery reception and a regional wine tasting. The SFIGF is set for January 26-29, 2008, at Moscone Center and the San Francisco Giftcenter and Jewelrymart

Key events that focus on the city’s special offerings include:

  • The Fair’s Opening Night Reception, Saturday, January, 26, will be held in a downtown urban gallery space, 111 Minna Gallery, within walking distance of the Moscone Center in the heart of San Francisco's SOMA district.

  • A regional Wine Tasting Reception at the permanent showrooms at the Giftcenter & Jewelrymart on Sunday, January 27, will present the offerings of Napa Valley’s Acacia and Sterling Vineyards, and Sonoma Valley’s Moon Mountain Vineyard. 

  • “Night in the Castro,” an event presented in partnerships with Under One Roof and The City Dish is set for Monday, January 28. ACC Presents Emerging Artists atBaltimoreShow 
New York – The American Craft Council has named 25 artists as Searchlight Artists, a category newly created by the Council to feature emerging artists. The 25 Searchlight Artists have been juried into The American Craft Show, scheduled to take place at the Baltimore Convention Center, February 19-24.in Baltimore, MD. They will join more than 800 professional craft artists who will present their high-quality, handmade jewelry, furniture, clothing, home décor and more. 

The work of Searchlight Artists will be presented together in two separate gallery sections of the show: Ten artists—Tanya Aguiniga, Anastasia Azure, Stephanie Dearmond, Cynthia Levine, Martha McQuade, Miel-Margarita Paredes, David Piper, Lauren Rossi, Boyd Sugiki, Hisano Takei — will present at the Wholesale Show, open to the trade only, February 19-21; and 15 artists — Jennifer Anderson, Megan Auman, Haley Bates, Maggie Casey, Jung-Yeon Choi, Claudia Crisan, Chase De Forest, Sarah Fox, Andy Paiko, Jimin Park, Elizabeth Perkins, Lacey Jane Roberts, Andy Shaw, Munemitsu Taguchi, and Akiko Yokoyama — will present at the Retail Show, open to the public, February 22-24.

High Point Pre-Market Offers Competitive Edge
High Point, NC—The Spring 2008 Pre-Market, scheduled for March 3-4, 2008. was planned by an expanded group of furniture manufacturers to provide a competitive advantage to key buyers and help manufacturers build relationships with others.

Former White House Press Secretary is Housewares Industry Breakfast Speaker
Rosemont, IL — Tony Snow, former White House Press Secretary, will be the featured speaker at the Industry Breakfast/International Housewares Association Annual Meeting on  Tuesday, March 18. The event will be held during the 2008 International Home + Housewares Show, March 16–18 at McCormick Place in Chicago. Snow’s presentation will focus on “The International Outlook: An Overview and Election 2008 Update.”

“We are pleased and honored to have Tony Snow as our guest speaker this year,” said Phil Brandl, IHA president. “Having just left working in the White House, Snow will give us an insightful look at the current international political picture and the 2008 election.”

BostonGift Show Presents Comprehensive Program/Event 
White Plains, NY— Buyers attending the Boston Gift Show can take advantage of a range of business-building seminars and other special events to make their market experience well-rounded. The Boston Gift Show will be held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center from April 5–8.

To kick off the show and motivate retailers to business excellence, the Pride of New England Awards reception on Saturday, April 5, will recognize 2008’s honorees for excellence in customer service, creative merchandising and community involvement. The reception and announcement of winners takes place at 5 p.m. A special display on the show floor will spotlight the 2008 winners. Also throughout the show’s run, buyers will be challenged to try their luck on a putting green to score a hole-in-one and earn a reward of spending money for orders placed at the show.

The learning experience begins before the show with a pre-show webinar on Thursday, January 10 from 1–2 p.m. EST. “Education is a key component of the Boston Gift Show experience,” said Tony Orlando, show manager. “Independent retailers are constantly seeking fresh ideas and new inspiration to market their stores in affordable yet effective ways, and these seminars will help them achieve that objective.”
