High Point Market Week Happenings
High Point, NC —High Point Market Week, set for April 7–13, will host a full slate of events, seminars and other activities in addition to the week’s regular buying activities. To help buyers organize their market stay, the “Market Planner” tool on the High Point Market website will enable them to plan their schedules. The Market Planner is a comprehensive tool that allows buyers to research exhibitors and events prior to market, and save those events and companies/showrooms to their own personal Market Plan.
Highlights of the market are the countless social and entertainment events. More market venues are offering educational sessions during the week including Merchandise Mart Properties’(MMPI) series of ‘green’ luncheon seminars sponsored by the Sustainable Furniture Council in the Suites at Market Square; and The Interior Design Society has planned a variety of speakers and events for its new seminar space in the organization’s new national headquarters in the Radio Building.
Another part of the market week events is the Stars Under the Stars concert series, which kicks off Monday evening, April 7, with Kool & The Gang, playing such chart-topping hits as “Celebration,” “Get Down On It,” “Fresh,” “Too Hot,” and many others. Other performers include rock group Cheap Trick on April 8, and blues guitarist Robert Cray, April 9. All Stars Under The Stars concerts take place under the Showplace Tent. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m., and doors open at 7 p.m. nightly.
A special symposium on Swedish Design will be held on April 7, 8 and 9 in the Suites at Market Square, Space 1-300. Co-sponsored by MMPI and the High Point Market Authority, in cooperation with the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Industrial Development Center West Sweden AB, the Swedish Design Symposium will explore Sweden’s unique design philosophy and home furnishings capabilities, and will provide insight into the design management philosophies that have propelled Swedish designs around the globe.
Throughout Market week, a variety of furnishings representing the craft, design and manufacturing capabilities of Swedish furniture companies will be displayed nearby the seminar room in Space 1-528, Suites at Market Square.
