Russ Berrie & Co. to Explore Strategic Alternatives

Wayne, NJ – According to MarketWatch.com, Russ Berrie & Company Inc. has begun to explore strategic alternatives to enhance shareholder value. The company, which sold its gift business to Encore last December, will be looking into a possible merger, acquisition, strategic partnership or sale.
“The sale of our gift segment transformed our business and focused our efforts on the attractive infant and juvenile industry. Our objective now is to establish an even greater presence in the industry by building upon our market leadership. Based on the inquiries we have received, we have decided to examine a full range of alternatives that may enhance our long-term potential,” said Bruce Crain, president and CEO. In addition to exploring outside strategic alignments, Crain noted that the company is also focusing on internal initiatives to grow its brands and strengthen market share.
Since the sale of the gift segment, the company has, and will continue to focus on its infant and juvenile brands, which include Kids Line LLC, LaJobi Inc., Sassy Inc. and CoCaLo Inc.
