New York – The winners of the Fifth Annual Umbra – Pratt Design Competition will be honored at BKLYN Designs, an annual show featuring contemporary furniture and accessories, on Saturday, May 9, at the DUMBO Arts Center in Brooklyn, NY. The competition, which was first started in 2005 in honor of Umbra’s 25th Anniversary, is open to undergraduate and graduate students in Pratt’s Industrial Design program. This year’s theme was Need vs. Want. The designers were asked to create meaningful and compelling products that would be sustainable in today’s economic climate. The first prize went to Michael Weaker for the Cozy Shelf; second prize went to Hayyim Danzig for the Modular Trivet; the third prize went to Dana Otto for the Rorschach Wall Organizers and the honorable mention went to Joseph Eberle for the Coat Knob. The winning designs will be on display at Umbra’s booth at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York, May 16–19.
We would love your feedback!
