GDA Interactive from April 2007: Cocktails, Anyone?

By Bessie Nestoras -- Gifts and Dec, 4/10/2007 8:57:00 AM

Cocktail parties are still a popular trend in home entertaining — they’re all about fun. One of the hottest sellers at Gatehouse, a tabletop and gift shop in Naples, FL, is the collection of paper cocktail napkins from Mary Phillips Designs. “People want fun things for their parties, but something with style,” explains Gatehouse owner Sue Nelson. Readers of Bon Appetit’s tenth annual Reader Survey said that a party featuring cocktails and appetizers was their favorite kind of get-together. A fun way to promote this category is to host a party of your own. Nelson hosts open houses to highlight one of the lines she carries in her shop. She creates a party atmosphere with food and drink and gets shoppers excited about having their own party, at the same time boosting sales.
