Sharper Image Creates Licensing Division

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 2/15/2007 3:29:00 PM

San Francisco — The Sharper Image retail chain created a brand licensing division. The new division will license the Sharper Image brand to manufacturers and retailers across many categories. These include gifts, personal care, home and home furnishings, toys and games, bed and bath and kitchen, as well as luggage and travel, fitness and well-being, electronics, computers and communications, automotive and apparel.

Licensees will be able to sell into other specialty and department stores as well as the Sharper Image retail stores, catalog and website. Licensed products will begin to launch as early as fall 2007. The division will be lead by John W. Spotts as senior vice-president, brand licensing.

Sharper Image also recently appointed Gary T. Chant as senior vice president, human resources and administration, and named Marc J. Leder, Co-CEO of Sun Capital Partners Inc., to its board of directors. An affiliate of Sun Capital Partners is one of the Sharper Image’s largest shareholders, with 9.8 percent ownership. Leder will serve as an independent, non-executive board member and as a member of the compensation committee and the nominating and governance committee. These changes are part of the continuing shakeup at Sharper Image as the company strives to regain its footing following several consecutive quarters of losses.
