Buyers Still Look to China

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 10/21/2008 11:01:00 AM

Hong Kong — Some 77 percent of the 300 buyers who responded to research conducted last week by b-to-b media company and trade facilitator Global Sources plan to increase or keep their sourcing volume the same in the next 12 months: 38 percent of buyers plan to increase their sourcing and 39 percent expect their sourcing to remain the same. Some 30 percent plan to increase sourcing volume from China and 31 percent plan to keep their imports from China the same as last year. And that’s a high level: 69 percent of buyers expect more than 50 percent of their sourcing to be from China. However 71 percent of buyers said that looking for new markets, other than China, was critical. Vietnam at 60 percent and India at 53 percent were the most popular new markets.
