People on the Move: February 23

Bryan Stockton, president, international, Mattel Inc., will take over as chairman of the Toy Industry Association’s board of directors for a one-year term. Stockton previously served as vice chairman of the board. Soren Torp Laursen, president, LEGO Systems, returns to the board of directors and assumes the role of vice chairman. Current board member John Gessert, president and CEO of American Plastic Toys, joins the executive committee as secretary-treasurer. David Hargreaves of Hasbro joins Jamie Gallagher of Faber-Castell/Creativity for Kids to round out the executive committee. New members of the board of directors for a two-year term include ThinkFun’s Andrea Barthello; Hoogaloo Toys’ William Beebe; Hasbro’s David Hargreaves; Big Time Toys’ Sam Harwell; Funrise Toy’s Shirley Price; Mattel’s Chuck Scothon; LEGO System’s Soren Torp Laursen; and Patch Products’ Robert Wann.

The Direct Marketing Association appointed Bob Allen as interim president and CEO. Allen is a senior consultant for Dorset Partners, a business revitalization firm. Prior to working with Dorset Partners, Bob served as president and CEO of the Vermont Country Store, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for four retail companies.

Lisa Shankle was named the general manager for Showplace, Showplace West and Hamilton Properties in High Point, NC. Shankle came to the Showplace properties in 2006 from Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. She was most recently the leasing and property manager for Hamilton Properties which includes 200, 320 and 330 North Hamilton.

Yankee Candle makes two appointments to its UK sales team. Tracey Smith joined as area sales manager covering the Midlands area and Oliver Ewins will be covering the South West of England.

John Wind of jewelry vendor Maximal Art has become a member of the Accessories Council, a not-for-profit, national advocacy organization. whose mission is to stimulate consumer awareness and demand for fashion accessory products.

Family entertainment producer Chorion named Tamra Knepfer as executive vice president brand management and marketing, and Steve Cipolla as executive vice president global licensing and sales. Knepfer is responsible for overseeing brand strategy, marketing and creative for Chorion’s brands worldwide. Most recently she was senior vice president, global licensing and business development for Rodale publishing. Cipolla will oversee Chorion’s global licensing and retail teams and develop new opportunities for the company’s portfolio of brands. He most recently served as vice president and general manager, ESPN Consumer Products. 

North Carolina marketing agency The Media Matters Inc.  hired Dana Murphy to serve as the company’s public relations coordinator. In this newly created position, Murphy will oversee public relations initiatives and social media.
