Online Coupons with a Charity Twist

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 8/11/2009 11:39:00 AM

Big Indian, NY – Andrew McGovern Martin, founder of food brands SmartFood and Annies Inc., has now founded a new website www.CommonKindness.com. CommonKindness offers consumers free national and local coupons and discounts while supporting non-profits. It offers retailers the chance to drive business by greater outreach, and by appealing to both shoppers’ financial concerns and the feel-good appeal of cause-related consumption. The website receives revenue from the brands who offer coupons and discounts. CommonKindness then donates 60 percent of its profits to charities and causes selected by people who visit the site and clip coupons.

Of special interest to independent retailers is the site’s “local economic stimulus package” – local businesses can use coupons to drive traffic while supporting local charities. Shops can try it free for three months with no obligation – after that it costs $50 per month to continue. Participating vendors can download a CommonKindness certificate to display and get a "Proud to be a CommonKindness company" window decal, as well as downloading a press release to send to local media.
