All I Want for Christmas

Oberlin, OH — All college students want for Christmas are gift cards. According to a new survey by the National Association of College Stores (NACS), 19 percent of the 587 respondents asked said they would prefer either a gift card or cash for Christmas. The reasoning is that they prefer to make their own purchasing choices.
“According to our Student Watch survey, college-bound students showed a penchant for purchasing items made from recycled materials, Fair Trade products and organic alternatives in categories such as food and beverage or health and beauty products," said Karen Bartelme, researcher in charge of NACS Collegiate Research Services program. "A gift card or cash has the double benefit of allowing them to avoid un-cool gifts from grandma, while at the same time voting for causes that are important to them with their pocketbooks.”
The second most requested gift was clothes at 15 percent. At the bottom of the list was electronics, mainly because most students already own a home video game system, cell phone, computer and MP3 upon entering college.
