Bloomingdale, IL — Inspirational giftware vendors Roman Inc. and Cottage Garden Collections will merge effective October 15. Both the Roman brand, which is known for the Fontanini Heirloom Nativity, Seraphim Classics and more, and the Cottage Garden brand of music boxes and musical frames, will remain intact and headquartered in their respective cities. However the companies will consolidate brand equity and take advantage of economic efficiencies, as well as the Roman sales force and showroom presence.
Roman is headed by president and CEO Dan Loughman, son-in-law of founder Ronald T. Jedlinski, while Cottage Garden is spearheaded by president Mark Timm, husband of founder Angela Timm. Loughman will remain president and CEO of Roman, while Timm will report to Loughman as president of the new Cottage Garden division of Roman. In addition, Angela Timm will take over from her husband as president of Grace Licensing.
Loughman told Gifts & Decorative Accessories that he does not anticipate any layoffs as a result of the merger. "From my perspective," Timm added, "there is a much greater likelihood that jobs will be created," as the companies begin introducing each vendor's unique customers to the other line.
Said Timm, "This definitely is not a merger of efficiencies meaning we want to merge all our operations and cut jobs. Neither company is financially struggling; both are healthy businesses that don’t need each other." Loughman agreed. "It’s a proactive approach to make sure it didn’t need to happen to either one of us."
