Home decor selections for Christmas and other third and fourth quarter holidays

By Meredith Schwartz -- Gifts and Dec, 7/1/2007 12:00:00 AM

Some years, a single trend rises above the rest to become the dominant theme in seasonal offerings. The purple Christmas and the lodge Christmas are recent examples. In other years, however, the major theme in holiday decor seems to be ... the holidays. This season, colors and themes are sticking close to tradition, with red and green dominating the palette. Holiday tabletop has proliferated, with offerings ranging from casual to elegant. Whimsy is also popular, and fitness themes are sneaking into a season that's usually associated with guilty indulgence. Meanwhile, Halloween continues to expand. And while there's still life in last year's penguins, we're seeing more snow — as in both -flakes and -folks — in this year's offerings.
