Los Angeles – Christmas sales are estimated to grow 0.19 percent to $128.1 billion, according to industry
research firm IBISWorld. But while food and drink are expecting double digit growth, the gift industry categories are seeing little benefit. Decorations, at 0.61 percent growth to $8.25 billion, are practically flat, while gifts are expected to decline by 2.6 percent to $81.91 billion. The miscellaneous category, which includes cards, will fall even further, by 4.82 percent, to $10.23 billion.
However IBISWorld’s outlook for next year looks much more full of holiday cheer. The company estimates 2010 overall Christmas sales to be up 6.7 percent to $136.7 billion. Gift sales are expected to rise a substantial 9 percent, while decorations will increase 14 percent.
