New York – Ann Erickson of Park City, UT, was named the 2009 Scotch Brand Most Gifted Wrapper in a national gift-wrapping contest held at Rockefeller Center in New York City. In the competition, sponsored by 3M, the maker of Scotch brand tape and Scotch cutting tools. Erickson out-wrapped seven other competitors to win a $10,000 cash prize.
Finalists wrapped odd-shaped gifts in three rounds during the contest, including a toy helicopter, a bicycle and a seven-foot tall sailboat. They were judged on the appearance of the wrapped gifts, technique and speed. A preliminary judge selected the eight finalists – four amateurs and four professionals – based on a brief essay describing their talent and experience in gift wrapping.
Among the finalists who received a smaller cash prize was Shauletta Baptiste from New York stationery retailer Kate's Paperie and Judy Porter from Neiman Marcus, Kingwood, TX.
