Senate Resolution Honors High Point Market

By Kids Today Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 9/22/2009 1:09:00 PM

Washington, DC -- The U.S. Senate passed a resolution Sept. 16 commemorating the High Point Market's 100th Anniversary. U.S. Senator Kay R. Hagan (D-NC) and Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) introduced the resolution which reads, in part, “The High Point Market has gained a world-wide reputation as the premier place to experience the newest ideas in home furnishings.”

Senator Hagan represented High Point during her first two terms in the State Senate and remains an ardent proponent of the High Point Market. “North Carolina has a great history in home furnishings and the centennial anniversary of the High Point Market demonstrates North Carolina’s great success story in the industry,” Hagan said. “In its 100 years, the Market has become a 12 million-sq.-ft. international attraction that welcomes more than 160,000 people from 110 countries each year. I am committed to ensuring that it remains the country’s premier furniture marketplace into the future and will advocate in the U.S. Senate for its continued success.”

“The High Point Market is internationally renowned as a leader in the home furnishings industry, and has served as both an economic and cultural beacon for a century,” Senator Burr said. “I am proud to congratulate the Furniture Market on its 100 year anniversary and anticipate that it will still be setting the standard for excellence for centuries to come.”

High Point Market Authority President and CEO Brian D. Casey called the High Point Market the intellectual and creative nerve center of the U.S. home furnishings industry, and the centerpiece of the region’s furniture industry cluster. “We are proud to be recognized by Senators Hagan, Burr and the U.S. Senate with this honor,” Casey said, “and we will continue to work diligently to expand and improve the Market, further cementing our position as the home furnishings industry’s most important domestic and international event.”
