Three Toy Events Converge in Chicago

Chicago – The Toy and Game Industry Networking and Inventor Conference will take place at Chicago’s Navy Pier November 19–20. Manufacturer participants include Hasbro, Spin Master, Razor, Out of the Box, Buffalo Games, Fundex, Discovery Bay Games, Top Trumps, Sybarit and Infinitoy. Retailers include Sears, Barnes and Noble, Borders and ToysRUs, while inventors include Daryl Hannah and many more. Also look for consultants, rep and contributor to Gifts & Decorative Accessories and sister publication Playthings Richard Gottlieb.

The TAGIE Award Dinner will be held on November 20 at the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum in Chicago. Presenters include actors and inventors Daryl Hannah, Hilary Shepard and John Ratzenberger; Leslie Scott, the inventor of Jenga, and Phil Jackson and George Burtch at Hasbro Games. Tim Walsh, inventor, author and filmmaker, is master of ceremonies. Nominations are open until November 1 in the four voted categories: Toy Inventor of the Year, Game Inventor of the Year, Rising Star Inventor of the Year and Young Inventor of the Year (under 18). Also being honored that evening are: Bruce Lund, Lund and Company Invention, winner of the Humanitarian Award; Reuben Klamer, inventor of the Game of Life, winner of the Lifetime Achievement award and Betty James of Slinky, In Memoriam. Playthings magazine is one of the award sponsors.

The Chicago Toy and Game Fair (ChiTAG) will be held November 21–22. The event is open to the public, to double as a focus group and holiday promotion for toymakers. Also visit the Women in Toys Breakfast with Julia Fitzgerald from Sears, Mike Hirtle from Hasbro and Leslie Scott, the inventor of Jenga, as well as a Toy Safety Breakfast forum with TIA’s Michael Perkins.
