Gift for Life Honors Jedlinski, Engelbreit

By Caroline Kennedy -- Gifts and Dec, 3/22/2006 1:17:00 PM

Gift for Life (GFL), the gift, stationery and home decor industries’ charitable organization to benefit amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, will honor Ron Jedlinski, founder of Roman Inc., and artist Mary Engelbreit, at its annual gala in New York in May.

Jedlinski will receive the Chuck Yancy Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes an industry veteran who has made a positive and lasting impact on the gift and home decor industry. Jedlinski founded Roman Inc. in 1963 and with Jedlinski’s eye for product development, business acumen, and supplier relationships turned Roman Inc. into a major giftware company known for its holiday decor, Fontanini Nativities and inspirational giftware. In line with this award, Roman, Inc. will donate 5% of the proceeds of the 2007 Christmas Wishes Santa figurines to Gift For Life.

Mary Engelbreit will receive the Award for Outstanding Industry Achievement, which recognizes and honors high standards, creativity, talent and contributions to the gift and home decor industry. Engelbreit is known throughout the world for her colorful, detailed designs, which appear on a range of licensed products from greeting cards to gifts and home accents. Mary Engelbreit has donated a specially designed artwork, “Untie the Ribbons!” to benefit Gift For Life. The original will be auctioned at the Anniversary Gala and reproductions will be sold and signed as part of a special appearance at the National Stationery Show.

The 14th Anniversary Gift for Life Gala will be held on Monday, May 22, 2006, from 6–10 p.m. at BB King Blues Bar & Grill in New York City. The festivities will include a gourmet buffet dinner, cocktails and dancing to the music of noted DJ Lady Bunny. There will also be silent and live auctions for outstanding products, airline tickets, popular services and more. Individual tickets for the event start at $125 or $5,000 for a reserved table of ten.

The 2006 Anniversary Gala has an additional special emphasis with Gift for Life and amfAR donating $50,000 of the evening’s expected proceeds to the Montrose Clinic in Houston. Through this donation, the Montrose Clinic will be able to send staff to the various relief sites set up in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita to give direct assistance to HIV infected patients, left displaced or homeless by the storms.

To purchase tickets, make a donation, or receive additional information about the event, contact Franklin Fry, (212) 806-1611; or franklin.fry@amfar.org.
