Angelica Berrie Passionate About Kate's Paperie

New York — Angelica Berrie, widow of Russ Berrie and former CEO of Russ Berrie & Co., is finding great joy in her ownership of renowned stationery and gift chain, Kate's Paperie. Berrie, who purchased Kate's Paperie from the Flax family in late 2008, is profiled in today's edition of The Star-Ledger, a Newark, NJ, newspaper. Passionate about paper since her days as a manufacturer of paper jewelry and ornaments in the Philippines, Berrie discussed the challenges of running a luxury papergoods and gift store in this economy and notes that the store's merchandise mix incorporating gifts as well as stationery and its reputation for excellent customer service are part of the reasons for its continued success.
Berrie was a customer of Kate's, long before she became its owner. Now, she said to writer Joan Verdon, "I'm my own best customer. I'm here every week buying things from every store. But now I get an employee discount."
