Hong Kong – Chinese trade facilitation firm Global Sources will hold a China Sourcing Fair in December 2010
in Johannesburg, South Africa. The event will feature co-located specialty shows for exhibitors of gifts and premiums, home products, electronics and components, hardware and building materials, baby and children's products, and garments and textiles. Global Sources estimates that the events will attract more than 500 supplier booths.
"There is increasing demand for China-made products in developing markets," said Sarah Benecke, Global Sources' executive director. "In many of these economies, a middle class is emerging and demand for consumer products is growing. As mainland China produces a dominant share of the world's consumer goods, there is a strong fit between our China Sourcing Fairs and these growing markets." Mainland China's exports to Africa grew 39.5 percent in the first seven months of 2009, totaling $27.92 billion.
Benecke explained the new fair’s location: "Johannesburg is the logical next location for the Fairs, as it serves as a primary trading center for all of Africa and it is a very convenient location for business people throughout Africa who sometimes have difficulty obtaining visas to other locations."
Global Sources holds similar fairs in Dubai, U.A.E., and Mumbai, India, as well as Hong Kong and mainland China.
