Spring Fresh At Pacific Market Center Show
Seattle — Pacific Market Center ’s (PMC) Spring Home Décor & Gift Show, taking place April 26-29, will feature new showroom openings and a Green Showcase, presenting a wide selection of environmentally friendly products available in the PMC’s various showrooms.
“Whether it be highlighting green and sustainability products or the latest in made-in-the-USA products, or merchandizing ideas from experts in the field,” said Lisa Goodman, director marketing for Pacific Market Center, “we feel the spring show will be a great tool to give retailers that business edge to help set them apart from the competition.”
New showrooms include Taku Graphics and Tuura & Friedlander representing such lines as Artefact USA, Arts of Earth and Lavender Hill Arts. Among the new lines being shown, there are fall 2008 collections for two textile lines, Xochi and Shingora, at Richard Hull; Carol Burns will introduce a new line called The Mule Barn; and Bud Ishida & Associates will highlight Gourmet Gems’ high end specialty foods. Alayne Grothen & Company will introduce several new lines including Baroque Home & Garden and CNI Design; and Bayshore II will show new lines from Montag Fine Candles and Betty Singer’s Angels from Samaco.

New York Times Illustrator to Appear at SURTEX
White Plains, NY — Peter H. Reynolds, TheNew York Times best-selling author/illustrator, will make a special in-booth appearance at SURTEX, during its May 18–20 run at the Javits Convention Center, New York. Reynolds will be on hand to promote the debut of his Make Your Mark! and Time to Dream lines. He will conduct book and print signings in his booth (409) on Monday, May 19, from 10:30 a.m.–noon, and 2:30–4 p.m. He will sign copies of his new storybook, "Little Boy" (Simon & Schuster), which he illustrated in collaboration with author Allison McGhee.
Reynolds’ Make Your Mark! theme is based on his best-selling children’s book series "The Dot and Ish," which have been published in over 20 languages around the world. The Time to Dream line extends the messages highlighted in his storybook "The North Star" (Candlewick Press).

Sustainability a Trend at the Gourmet Housewares Show
White Plains, NY— With sustainability as one of the leading trends in 2008, the Gourmet Housewares Show is going green for its scheduled for May 6-8 appearance at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. This year’s show will highlight exhibitors who uphold green standards, from the materials they use in the design of products to creating new products that reduce amounts of waste.
“We are thrilled to highlight those exhibitors that uphold green standards by recognizing them with a “Green by Design” display during this year’s show,” says Susan Corwin, show manager. “Sustainability has become a way of life and we are proud that our industry maintains and continues to pave the way with new sustainable products that are diverse, functional, and highly unique.”

Portland to Kick Off Summer Season
White Plains, NY — The Portland Gift & Accessories Show is first out of the starting gate for the summer gift show buying season. This showcase of national brands, gifts and collectibles unique to the Pacific Northwest and handmade product by Northwest artisans, will take place May 31–June 3, at the Oregon Convention Center. The market will feature some 300 exhibitors and is expected to attract some 3,000 buyers.
The show is divided into six divisions: Artisans Avenue, Fashion Accessories, Food Focus, Gift & Collectibles, Jewelry Vaults and Vintage Collection. The “must haves” for the 2008 holiday season will be a focus.
Among the highlights of the show are: “Only in Portland” Show Specials; free educational programming for professional development; free daily demonstration workshops on product features and best practices for merchandising, to maximize exposure and sales; and a networking evening event on Monday, June 2, at American Cowgirls Bar & Grill, to unwind with food, drinks and karaoke.
