Market Runup: News About Upcoming Shows

NSS Welcomes Return of Key Companies; Intros New Elements
White Plains, NY — The National Stationery Show (NSS), running May 18–21, at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, welcomes the return to its exhibitor ranks severl companies whose presence has been missing in recent years. Thise exhibitors include Colorbok, Mrs. Grossman's Paper Company, Roger La Borde, The Flavia Company and Two's Company. And in the ever-challenging pursuit of “what’s new,” the NSS introduces two new elements to this year’s show. The Best New Product Awards competition will expand by adding an eco-friendly “Think Green” counterpart to each of the six defined categories, which will recognize exhibiting companies that reflect ingenuity with earth-friendly products. A total of 13 Awards, including the coveted Delegates’ Choice Award,  will be presented during the show.

To enhance the educational opportunities, new this year is a Paper Craft seminar track. In addition to educational, business-building programs for both retailers and exhibitors, iit includes several pre-show webinars, where participants can dial in and log on to participate in an interactive telephone/Internet learning session. Following is a listing of some of the upcoming programming. Unless otherwise noted, seminars are $20 in advance; $30 on site and are held in Room 1C02/03.

PRE-SHOW PROGRAMS

Tuesday, March 25.
 “Exhibitor Webinar: Display.” 1-2 p.m. ET. Presented by Mike Oleskow of Modus Operandi. Dial-in and log-on to learn about creating the most visually-appealing and effective booth space.. Cost is $20 in advance. This is the third in a series of pre-show exhibitor webinars.
Monday, May 5.
“New Buyer Webinar.” 1- 2 p.m. ET. Elaine Stillman of Penny Laine Papers will explain what new buyers should know from the exhibitor's point of view, and Hannah Rodewald of The Pleasure of Your Company will offer advice based on her years of buying experience. Dial in and log-on to learn how to prepare for the National Stationery Show, including what to bring, how to shop the Show efficiently and effectively, how to place orders and how to follow-up with exhibitors after the Show. Cost is $20 in advance. Deadline to register is April 28.

PAPER CRAFT TRACK

Monday, May 19. A Conversation with Andrea Grossman, president of Mrs. Grossman's Paper Company. 8:15 - 9 a.m. Tickets: $35 in advance; $40 onsite; includes breakfast as well as Understanding the Scrapbooker. 9–10 a.m. Highlight s trends and opportunities for stationery retailers

Surtex Plans Conference Program
White Plains, NY — Surtex, running May 18–20 at the Javits Convention Center, will  present more than 370 exhibiting artists, designers, studios, agents and licensing firms offering a range of art and design solutions for products. A highlight of Surtex is a conference program consisting of nine educational sessions grouped into three key tracks: Licensing, Business and Trends. The cost for each program is $75 in advance or $85 on site. For interested participants, there is a  Full Conference Package available (for advance purchase only) at the discounted price of $600; a Half-Conference Package (also for advance purchase only) is $300.

The Supply Side Offers Notable Suppliers
White Plains, NY — The Supply Side is set for May 20–21, and runs concurrently with the National Stationery Show and Surtex at the Javits Convention Center in New York City. Targeted specifically for designers and publishers within the social stationery, giftware and graphic arts industries, the show will feature a total of 70 exhibitors, including a number of new exhibitors specializing in the areas of paper, cover materials, printing, labels, foil stamping and engraving.
