Cincinnati — Federated Department Stores, owners of Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, asked shareholders to approve a name change to Macy’s Group. Shareholders will vote in conjunction with the company’s annual meeting in May, and if approved, the change will be effective June 1.
“Most companies don’t know what Federated Department Stores stands for, and obviously the name-brand recognition for our new name is an easy decision for us,” CEO Terry Lundgren told the Associated Press. Some 90 percent of the company’s revenue is generated by the Macy’s brand. While Federated is probably best known for apparel, 17 percent of the company’s sales come from “home and miscellaneous” products.
