New York — You may have heard of home swaps, where vacationers trade houses to cut costs. Now a
hybrid between that idea and sister cities called Wish You Were Here will see 30 independent boutiques trade places between New York City’s Lower East Side and Newburgh Quarter, London. All designers taking part in this project will be completely new to the other city.
Besides apparel and larger home furnishings, categories will include gift industry staples such as accessories, jewelry, wall art, housewares, bath and body products.
Rather than swapping storefronts at the same time, staggered events will let everyone enjoy the fun on both sides of the Atlantic. Pop-up shops and events will take place from Aug. 20–Sept. 13 in New York and Oct. 1–Nov. 1 in London.
New York events will include fashion shows, traditional English tea parties, an end of summer outdoor party, in-store activities and collaborative window displays. London Events will include a Big Apple street market with bagels, pretzels and other New York specialties, a ‘guerrilla’ fashion show, a shopping evening, a Halloween party, live street performances, in-shop entertainment and music showcases
