New temporary categories debuting at AmericasMart–Atlanta’s January market include Furniture & Case Goods, Souvenir, Resort & Novelty Gifts, Halloween and License & Design, in addition to another nine category expansions. In addition for the first time this January, AmericasMart offers AmericasMart License & Design, which will be featured January 9-11, 2009, in building 2. License & Design is designed to help jumpstart product planning, networking and securing partnerships, as well as streamline the licensing process for both artists and agencies and designers and manufacturers.

At January’s The Chicago Market: Living and Giving, Signatures Book Signing Events include The Wedding Book: The Big Book For Your Big Day by Lisbeth Levine and eat.shop Chicago by Anna H. Blessing. Power lunch seminars include Revitalizing Retail with Gail Michael who explains how La-Z-Boy reinvented its look and feel; Speed Networking Host the Party!; and Store Window Display—set-up LIVE where Mick Santiago, The Chicago Market’s resident interior designer, will create a themed, life-size window storefront in under an hour. Also look for the 12th floor fashion show and launch party celebrating the show’s co-location with apparel event Stylemax.

New features at the New York Intl. Gift Fair include the new "Bloggers' Choice" Awards, which will be presented to select Accent on Design exhibitors. In addition, the sustainability display is backed by three seminars: "It's Easy Being, Building, Buying & Selling Green", “The Color of Money… Adopting Green Business Practices for Higher Profits" and "Get Real… Green Verification and Certification". Other seminars include the NYIGF Orientation, Home Trends: What's Now? What's Next?, Retailer to Retailer: How to Thrive in a Changing Economy, Color Pulse and Retail Strategies: Using Public Relations to Build Your Business. Special events include A Night on Broadway, which this market will feature specially priced tickets to the musical Billy Elliot, Gift For Life's Stakes Are High Casino, which raises money for DIFFA: The Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, a Barefoot Contessa Celebrity Appearance and Tasting at the Stonewall Kitchen Booth, and a Museum Buyer Networking Breakfast. In addition, market participants are invited to visit the newly-opened Museum of Art & Design (MAD) in its new home at 2 Columbus Circle throughout the week at no charge, compliments of NYIGF, 7 West New York, 41 Madison and 230 Fifth Avenue.

During the 2009 Seattle Market Week: Winter Gift & Home Accessories Show at Seattle’s Pacific Market Center Jenny Heinzen York, editor in chief of Home Accents Today and Meredith Schwartz, business editor of Gifts & Decorative Accessories, will present How to Market Your Store to Get More Press, More Customers, and More Success along with an expert panel of retailers.
