Gift Companies Named to Inc. 500

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 8/14/2009 11:50:00 AM

Even in a tough economic climate, gift businesses are managing to not just survive, but thrive. Several gift and related businesses made the Inc. 500, the business magazine’s list of the 500 fastest growing privately owned American companies. Not surprisingly given market trends, many of these had a connection to eco-friendly products, online retail, babies, or all of the above.

Online retailer GourmetGiftBaskets.com, Manchester, NH, came in 37th, with 3,260.5 percent growth between 2005 and 2008, to $8.5 million. At 115th, BabyEarth, Round Rock, TX, has both a brick-and-mortar and an online store selling environmentally friendly baby products. It grew 1,440.1 percent to $5.7 million. At 153rd. Reuseit, Chicago, grew 1,190.5 percent to $6.2 million. Resuseit sells reusable bags and other eco-friendly products, like metal water bottles and food jars, through ReusableBags.com. SendOutCards of Salt Lake City, UT, grew 1,173.4 percent to hit the 158th spot with $32.9 million. A hybrid of online and off, the company allows subscribers to create and customize traditional print greeting cards online, and have them printed, stuffed, stamped, and delivered to the recipient.

No. 342, SkinCareRx, also of Salt Lake City, grew 720.9 percent to $16.8 million. SkinCareRx sells customized skin care online. No. 463, SwaddleDesigns of Seattle, WA, grew 558.6 percent to $3.6 million. SwaddleDesigns creates layettes and blankets for swaddling infants. No. 464, LaserGifts, Prescott, AZ, grew 556.4 percent to $16.1 million. LaserGifts manufactures laser-engraved souvenirs sold at tourist attractions, museums, national parks, mass market stores and resorts. And No. 469, Madison, WI-based Oompa Toys, grew 552.3 percent to $4 million. Oompa Toys sells baby toys online and by catalog that are well-designed, made of natural materials, and encourage the use of imagination.
