NYIGF Shifts Dates, Divisions

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 4/10/2007 9:06:00 AM

White Plains, NY — The New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) will return to the staggered open/close pattern of years past. Handmade at the Javits Center and three divisions at the Passenger Ship Terminal Piers will open on Saturday, August 11. All other Javits Center divisions, plus ExTracts and New York’s Newest at the Metropolitan Pavilion, will open on Sunday, August 12.

Other changes include adding the New York’s Newest division to the summer market, expanding Just Kidstuff and The Museum Source offerings within the General Gift division and integrating the New York Home Textiles Show into the At Home division. Just Kidstuff and The Museum Source will each nearly double in size to more than 40 and 55 exhibitors respectively, while the August edition of New York’s Newest will feature 100 companies.

The gift show will take place August 11–16 at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Passenger Ship Terminal Piers, and Metropolitan Pavilion. It will run concurrently with the ExTracts personal care show and the debut New York Home Textiles Market Week, a semiannual home textiles market produced cooperatively by NYIGF show management George Little Management (GLM) plus permanent showroom buildings 230 Fifth Ave. and 7W New York.

GLM will also sponsor Gifts & Decorative Accessories’ Retailer Excellence Awards on Sunday, August 12, at Tavern on the Green, recognizing achievement in eight retail categories and two for industry-wide excellence. Tickets, which cost $150, include cocktails, dinner and the awards presentation.

Other notable events during the show will include seminars such as SustainAbility: Design for a Better World; Extreme Makeover: Retail Edition; TrendWatch Live! NYC; Psychology of Color and a three-part retail success series addressing selling, staffing and service strategies. In addition, GLM will offer $80 tickets for the Tuesday, August 14, performance of the Broadway musical Curtains.
