Some 71 percent of adults are most likely to purchase gift wrap supplies and wrap presents themselves, according to a survey commissioned by Scotch brand tapes. One in five (19 percent) will put items in a gift bag. Only three percent will have gifts professionally wrapped at a store. Some 53 percent have saved and re-used gift wrap paper, with women (61 percent) more likely than men (44 percent) to recycle used gift wrap.

Despite the recession, Ultra Paws found that 81 percent of dog owners planned to buy a gift for their pet this past holiday season.

According to The Licensing Letter, sales of licensed goods were up 4.8 percent in China, 4.3 percent in Latin America, and 2.8 percent in Eastern Europe last year.

Spending on luxury goods and services rose 29.4 percent from second quarter to third quarter 2009, according to Unity Marketing. However, it's mostly the richest who are buying: those with income of $250,000 and above. Those with income below that level were reluctant to trade up to the luxury level.

The greenest households are in the Southwest, according to a national study by marketing research company Ruf Strategic Solutions. Compared to the average household, green consumers are: 38 percent more liberal and 35 percent more likely to spend $50 or less in groceries per week. They purchase 24 percent more products from home shopping programs and use public transportation 23 percent more often.

Men are getting well-groomed: retail sales of grooming products used by men will grow almost 39 percent, or $23.6 million, during 2009–2014, according to Packaged Facts. The market is forecast to hit $84.9 billion by the end of the five-year period.
