NEW YORK — Hasbro has reached an agreement-in-principle with Sony Pictures Consumer Products for master toy rights to next summer's Men in Black 2 feature film.
Hasbro plans on producing a full line of Men in Black 2 toys, including feature plush, action figures and vehicles. The deal is Hasbro's first association with the property.
"We are extremely excited to work with Sony on Men in Black 2 and look forward to creating the ultimate in alien gadgets, action figures and vehicles," said Brian Goldner, president of Habro's U.S. Toys group.
Men in Black 2 is scheduled for release on July 3, 2002. The first film, 1997's Men in Black, has since spawned a children's television series airing on Kids WB! and will expand to another animated series during Fall 2002.
Separately, Hasbro has announced an agreement with Voice Signal Technologies Inc. under which VST will provide the toymaker with speech-recognition technology for use in its products. The deal expands an existing relationship between VST and Hasbro's Tiger Electronics division.
