Jazwares jumps on 'Percy' toy rights

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 11/24/2009 7:47:00 AM

Jazwares plans toys for FoxSUNRISE, Fla.—Jazwares has been signed to market toys based on Twentieth Century Fox’s upcoming feature film adaptation of Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.

Jazwares’ product line will include single and two-packed action figures, a role-play sword and a light-up pen.

Based upon the first novel in Riordan’s best-selling book series, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is set in a modern world in which the 12 gods of Mount Olympus are still active. The story's namesake hero, the teenage son of Poseidon, is suspected by Zeus of stealing his lightning bolt and must prove his innocence and in the process avoid a devastating war among the gods.

"The adventures of Percy Jackson in this very exciting world where the Greek gods walk among us, lent itself very well to creating a unique product line," said Laura Zebersky, Jazwares’ executive vice president sales. "We are incredibly excited to be a part of this first film adaptation of the popular novels and look forward to seeing fans' reactions to our highly detailed line."
