University Games to continue Front Porch Classics

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 12/30/2008 9:09:00 AM

SAN FRANCISCO—University Games has completed its acquisition of the assets of Sababa Toys, including the entire Front Porch Classics product line, for an undisclosed sum.

In 2009 University Games will expand on Front Porch’s State Fair line by adding three games—Lawn Bowling, Fish Bait and Skee-Bean—to its existing slate of traditional games like Shut the Box and Liar’s Dice, most often marketed in wooden cases. Plans for any other of Sababa's assets purchased by University Games were not announced.

“Front Porch Classics is a very special brand, and we don’t plan to mess with its winning formula of superior quality, elegant design and ageless game play,” said Jeff Loeb, president of Front Porch Classics, which will operate as a division of University Games. “We anxiously anticipate expanding the games we offer while maintaining Front Porch’s long-standing commitment to family entertainment.”

In August 2008, Sababa filed a sale motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court of the Southern District of New York to sell its assets to University Games. In early September, the bankruptcy court held an auction to spur offers from other potential bidders.
