iToys will revive Gogo's
Crazy Bones

Last month's American International Toy Fair gave many toymakers a chance to trumpet fresh licensing deals. Here are some of the most significant: Cartoon Network extended its hardlines programs for Bakugan and Ben 10 to include game maker The Canadian Group, keychain producer Basic Fun and Dynatech (flashlights, projectors and snow sleds). Cra-z-Art Corp., a division of Larry Rosen's LaRose Industries, will market Bakugan activity toys ... Hasbro extended its rights to Marvel's 5,000-plus characters for an addition six years. The deal includes rights for any new movie or television versions of Marvel's characters between now and 2017. In return, Hasbro guarantees Marvel $100 million in royalties annually ... Zizzle announced a deal with Atari for handheld video games, due out in 2010, and video game keychains, due out in 2011, based on many of the most beloved games from Atari's glory years ... RC2 was named the global master toy licensee for The Jim Henson Co.'s new animated series Dinosaur Train. Under a multi-year agreement, RC2's Learning Curve Brands will market a line of preschool products that will debut in the last half of 2010 ... Lego announced a multi-year license with Disney Consumer Products that gives the toymaker access to "an extensive portfolio" of Disney and Disney-Pixar properties. Initial products currently in development are for Disney-Pixar's Toy Story and Cars, and for Jerry Bruckheimer's Prince of Persia: Sands of the Time, due out in 2010. In other Disney-Pixar licensing news, Carrera of America will expand its GO!!! line of 1:43 scale slot car racing sets with designs based on Cars, plus it inked a deal with Marvel Comics for Go!!! Spider-Man products based on the fourth edition of the movie franchise ... Sanrio appointed Jakks Pacific its principal North American toy licensee for the Hello Kitty brand ... In product news, iToys will revive Gogo's Crazy Bones (pictured) after a successful relaunch of the collectible figurine game in the U.K. It will debut at specialty stores this spring and at mass retailers this fall.

Kids products that combine high play value and a design sensibility that blends with mom and dad's house are sure winners for specialty shops, who can market themselves as an alternative to cheap plastic imports and their problematic safety records.

EcoGreen

Green products have become more of a staple now. The products are not only good for the environment, today's collections also boast great design.

Just for Fun

Vendors' sense of fun was evident this summer with many offering light-hearted and fun accessories for the home and for the self.
