NEW YORK—Kohlberg Kravis Roberts, the private equity owner of Toys “R” Us Inc., may soon return the retailer to public ownership, according to published reports.
According to a story posted by the Financial Times on Friday, KKR is readying IPOs for as many as six firms it currently owns, including Toys “R” Us and recession-boosted discount retailer Dollar General.
Toys “R” Us has yet to comment publicly about the story.
KKR teamed with Bain Capital Management—at the time the owner of toy retailing rival KB Toys—and Vornado Realty Trust to purchase Toys “R” Us in March 2005 for more than $5 billion.
