WizKids' Weisman wins entrepreneur award

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 6/23/2003 12:00:00 AM

SEATTLE — Jordan Weisman, founder and CEO of red hot collectibles miniatures game maker WizKids LLC, was recently named Ernst & Young Pacific Northwest Entrepreneur of the Year in the Retail and Consumer Products division for 2003.

"I'm thrilled," said Weisman. "This is truly and honor that belongs to all of the employees and partners whose hard work and vision have helped make our games a success. We were flattered to by considered alongside such terrific companies as [board game maker] Cranium Inc. and Argosy Cruises, and we're overjoyed to win."

Weisman is credited with inventing the first "collectible miniatures game," Mage Knight, in 1999. The game boasted two innovations: pre-painted plastic versions of the metal figurines already popular among hobbyists, and a patent-pending dial in each figure's base that replaced role playing games' traditional dice.

WizKidsz has sold more than 100 million miniature figures for its CMGs, including licensed likenesses of DC and Marvel comic book characters and those from the popular science-fiction property MechWarrior. The company's games are played in more than 56 countries.
