LOS ANGELES—Lego is joining the movies starring toy brands bonanza through a deal with Warner Bros. for a feature film based on its iconic building bricks.
The yet-to-be-named film will be a family comedy mixing live action and animation and that’s set “in a Lego world, according to Variety. The time frame for the movie’s release was not announced.
The deal with Warner Bros. expands a relationship that has seen Lego serve as a toy licensee for WB movies based on the likes of Harry Potter and Batman. Meanwhile, WB’s TT Games division continues to publish a successful series of video games based on Lego and its licensed toys, most notably Lego Star Wars.
Lego’s only previous foray into media has been a series of computer animated, direct to DVD features from Walt Disney Pictures featuring the toymaker’s Bionicle characters.
