Nick’s good fight

NEW YORK — A multimedia program directed at helping parents and their kids understand and talk about the dangers of alcohol abuse and underage drinking is being launched this summer by the non-profit Century Council and Nickelodeon.
The program, called “Ask, Listen, Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix,” is an attempt to dissuade children between the ages of 9 and 13—the tweeners—from experimenting with alcohol, through a variety of media. The program encourages dialogue between parents and their kids, providing tools to help ease the discussion.
The program will utilize a pair of booklets, Web sites, and television ad campaigns—one for parents and one for the children. The book for parents will be packaged with the September issue of “Nick Jr.” magazine, and the kids’ pamphlet will come with the September issue of “Nickelodeon” magazine. The Web sites and TV commercials will launch in August. The website for kids is www.asklistenlearn.com, and for the parents it is www.asklistenlearn.com/parents.
