Get those PJs ready

By Colleen Bohem -- Gifts and Dec, 6/18/2004 12:00:00 AM

LOS ANGELES — MGM and Hasbro are combining forces on June 23 to co-host the "World’s Largest Sleepover" event at 22 movie theaters across North America. The event is intended to promote the release of MGM’s new preteen flick, "Sleepover," in conjunction with Hasbro’s new Cover to Cover game for the tween set.

Sleepovers are set for the following markets: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa, Toronto and Washington D.C.

Cover to Cover, available in July, is targeted to girls ages 9 and up. The challenge of the game is to find certain items (like a bald man or the ugliest dress) in a magazine using the instructions from the electronic centerpiece and the category cards. Playthings staff experienced a round of Cover to Cover first-hand this week, at Hasbro’s 12th annual Game Day in New York.

"Sleepover," starring Alexa Vega, of "Spy Kids," and newcomer Sean Faris, is the story of a girl (Vega) who has a slumber party with her best friends before she begins her freshman year of high school, and ends up having a night of adventure.

Those who attend the sleepover at the Mall of America in Minneapolis are in for a special treat: the stars of "Sleepover" will be in attendance.
