RC2 recalls toy keys

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 11/2/2006 7:03:00 AM

WASHINGTON—The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with RC2, has issued an voluntary recall of Learning Curve and The First Years branded toy key sets due to four reports of the product breaking and releasing small parts, which can cause a choking hazard to small children.

RC2 has produced approximately 275,000 units of the three toy key sets, Shake 'n Jingle Keys/Shake & Jingle Keys, My Jingle Keys and John Deere Real Keys. The recalled items have a colored top portion that can crack resulting in the release of small parts. The toys feature three colored keys attached to a blue, red or green remote control with electronic features that activate different sounds.

Items with the letter “F” in the date code stamp listed between date codes 2015F01 through 2636F04 on the packaging and product are involved in the recall. The date code can be found on the back of the remote control. Toy keys with "TE" in the date code or yellow sides on the remote are not included in this recall. The item was sold from August through October of this year.

While no injuries have been reported, the company is urging consumers to stop using the recalled item and contact RC2 for a replacement toy at (800) 704-8697 or via its Web site at www.learningcurve.com. The CPSC consumer recall hotline is (800) 638-2772 .
