TAGIE Award nominations being accepted

CHICAGO—Nominations for the second annual TAGIE Awards, which honor toy and game inventors and this year features several celebrity presenters, are now being accepted.

 

The four categories for which nominations are being accepted this year are: Toy Inventor of the Year, Game Inventor of the Year, Rising Star Inventor of the Year, and a new category for 2009: Young Inventor of the Year (under 18). 

 

Nominations may be for a compilation of work or a single product and may be submitted by going to www.tagieawards.com. The deadline to submit a nomination is Nov. 1.

 

This year's program will also see three awards given out for past accomplishments, the recipients of which have been announced in advance: a Humanitarian award to Bruce Lund of Lund and Company Invention; an In Memoriam award to Betty James, long-time leader of Slinky manufacturer James Industries; and a Lifetime Achievement award to Reuben Klamer, inventor of the Game of Life, 1-2-3 Roller Skates and many other notable products.

 

Presenters this year include Daryl Hannah and Hilary Shepard, actresses and inventors of Liebrary and other games; John Ratzenberger, actor and Founder of Nuts, Bolts and Thingamajigs; Leslie Scott , inventor of Jenga; George Burtch, Hasbro Games executive; and a representative from the Toy Industry Foundation. Additional presenters will be announced soon. Inventor, author and filmmaker Tim Walsh will be the night’s Master of Ceremonies.

 
The awards will be bestowed on November 20 at the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum in Chicago on the eve of the Chicago Toy and Game Fair.

The TAGIE Awards are sponsored by Hasbro, Spin Master, Playthings magazine, Toy Industry Association, Strong National Museum of Play, and Chicago Toy and Game Group.
