Classic Media deals for Golden Books, 'Pat' toys

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 5/18/2009 7:34:00 AM

Yottoy has been licensed for toys based on Little Golden Books characters like The Poky Little PuppyNEW YORK—Classic Media has signed Yottoy for a plush line inspired by the Little Golden Books series.

Yottoy's line will launch with three soft toys based on Little Golden Books characters—The Poky Little Puppy, The Shy Little Kitty and Tawny Scrawny Lion—with more products in development. Designed to reflect the illustrations from the original books, the new toys will roll out to retail beginning this summer.

“We are thrilled to be working with such a trusted nostalgic literary property as Little Golden Books,” said Kate Karcher Clark, founder of Yottoy Productions. “Classic Media and Yottoy share the same passion for beautifully hand crafted toys that all ages will treasure forever based on this beloved literary property.”

The deal would seem a natural fit; Yottoy’s product lineup is dominated by designs based on children’s books.

Prior to the agreement with Yottoy the main Little Golden Books licensee in the toy space was Briarpatch for puzzles and card games.

“Parents and families have been sharing Little Golden moments for more than 65 years,” said Karyn Schneider, Vice President, Licensing, for Classic Media, of the deal with Yottoy. “Today, we are building on the heritage of Little Golden Books to create a full brand experience, and Yottoy is the perfect partner to bring these loveable characters to life for future generations.”

Separately, Classic Media has tapped Kids Preferred for products based on its 70-year-old Pat the Bunny infant book. The toymaker’s plans call for a new soft line of baby gifts, including plush, puppets, photo frames and albums, mobiles, melamine feeding sets, diaper bags and bath toys due out later this year.

“The entire Kids Preferred team is excited about the launch of our new Pat the Bunny line; one of our most beloved and cherished childhood characters,” said Laura Perks, Kids Preferred’s vice president of marketing.
