Bonnier adds Animal Planet children's books

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 4/14/2010 1:52:00 PM

NEW YORK—Discovery Communications has granted Bonnier Publishing global rights for Animal Planet branded children’s books.

Bonnier’s line will include a wide variety of books for children ages 3 to 13, including “unique” novelty, reference and activity book formats featuring both domestic and wild animals. They're scheduled for launch in the US in spring of 2011.

"Bonnier Publishing was attracted to Animal Planet because there are few global brands that align so well with the core values of our group and fit exactly into our publishing programs and distribution around the world," said Richard Johnson CEO of Bonnier Publishing. "Animal Planet reaches 166 countries in many of which we sell our products.  We look forward to working with the network and our publishing partners to maximize the distribution potential.”

The books will be created simultaneously on two continents by three different companies within the Bonnier Publishing group: Templar Publishing UK, Weldon Owen Australia and Five Mile Press, Australia.

In the U.S., the licensing deal was brokered on behalf of Animal Planet by its licensing agent, the Joester Loria Group.
