LeapFrog recalls plush dogs over choking hazard

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 7/23/2009 10:27:00 AM

Recalled: LeapFrogWASHINGTON, D.C.—LeapFrog Enterprises, Emeryville, Calif., is recalling approximately 3,700 units of its My Pal Scout electronic plush toy due to a choking hazard.

The decals on the paws of the plush dog can be removed and ingested by a child, posing a choking hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. LeapFrog has received two reports of children removing the decals from the toy, including one report of a child ingesting part of the decal.

My Pal Scout is a green and beige electronic plush dog that plays songs, speaks and barks when decals or embroidered symbols on its paws are pushed. The version of the toy with plastic decals on its paws is being recalled. My Pal Scout dogs with embroidered paws are not included in the recall. “LeapFrog Ent. Item No. 19142” is printed on the white tag attached to the dog and on the toy’s packaging.

The toys were sold at Toys “R” Us stores nationwide, at www.toysrus.com, www.leapfrog.com and other retail websites from May 2009 through June 2009 for about $20. The toys were made in China.

Consumers should contact LeapFrog to receive a replacement My Pal Scout with embroidered paws rather than decals. The company can be reached at (800) 701-5327 or www.leapfrog.com/recall.
