Bleach movie gets limited release

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 3/25/2008 9:36:00 AM

SAN FRANCISCO—Viz Media has secured a license to distribute a Bleach feature film for limited released this summer in North America.

Under a deal with TV Tokyo Corp, Shueisha Inc. and Dentsu Inc., Viz will release Bleach the Movie: Memories of Nobody in the Americas, Europe and Oceania. A DVD release will follow this winter. The film is inspired by the Bleach animated series that airs on Saturday nights as part of Cartoon Network’s late-night Adult Swim programming block.

“We are extremely excited to announce the domestic license for Bleach the Movie: Memories of Nobody,” says Liza Coppola, Viz Media’s senior vice president. “Bleach has emerged as one of the most popular animated, manga and video game properties in North America and the release of this film will no doubt captivate millions of avid fans.”

Bleach began as a manga series from Tite Kubo in Japan, where it has sold more than 50 million copies, according to Viz. Viz distributes the manga in North America. The property has gone on to inspire video games, apparel, action figures, trading cards and other merchandise.
