Attendance jumps at Shanghai show

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 11/18/2008 1:02:00 PM

SHANGHAI—Last month’s China Toy Expo saw visitor growth jump 20 percent, the tradeshow’s organizer said this week.

The Shanghai show, held October 9 to 11, recorded 30,384 trade visitors from 71 countries, up from the 2007 edition’s 25,320 trade visitors. According to the China Toy Association, retailer representation at the show increased, particularly from France, Sweden, Turkey and United States—specifics of those gains, though, were not announced.

Attendance by Chinese visitors to this year’s show increased 26 percent from 2007 to 28,452, according to the CTA, and the “quality” of visitors also improved, with approximately 38 percent of visitors being sales agent or wholesalers and 25 percent being retailers. Approximately 23 percent of attending retailers, CTA said, were from “chain store(s)and shopping mall(s).”

Once at the show, visitors could have seen 512 exhibitors from nearly 20 countries, up from the 462 exhibitors who touted their goods and services at the 2007 show. More than 90 percent of Chinese firms exhibiting were fully functioning factories, CTA said.

“The China Toy Expo is no doubt the most important platform for buyers who want to source directly from competitive toy factories in China,” said the CTA in a press release. “It is also gives international manufacturers effective access to the booming Chinese market.”

The 8th annual China Toy Expo will take place October 14–16, 2009, at Shanghai New International Expo Centre.
