Hasbro TV channel moves forward

PAWTUCKET, R.I.—Hasbro said today that it completed its purchase of 50 percent interest in a joint venture with the Discovery Kids Network that will see the partners rebrand Discover Kids as a Hasbro television channel.
Focused on children’s and family entertainment, the rebranded network is scheduled to premiere in late 2010. It will feature content from Hasbro’s portfolio of entertainment and educational properties, content from Discovery’s library of children’s educational programming, and programming from third-party producers.
The deal cost Hasbro approximately $300 million.
This week, the federal government took no action to block the partnership despite concerns from several groups opposed to children’s advertising.
If I knew that Hasbro would be carrying some regular schedule of Scrabble matches, I'd be delighted. I've been in love with the game nearly 30 years and rarely have seen TV coverage (twice on the Book channel). Now, are they making this a pick-n-pay choice for 2 or 3 bucks (or as part of a pkg)?
