United Media to push for Poptropica

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 2/24/2010 10:59:00 AM

United Media will oversee licensing efforts for Poptropica, a virtual world for tweensNEW YORK—United Media has been tapped as merchandise licensing agent for the tween-centric virtual world Poptropica.

United Media’s Poptropica licensing program will initially focus on toys, apparel and room décor for kids ages 6 to 12.

“With over 7 million visitors per month from more than 70 different countries, Poptropica already has a huge passionate fan base,” said Joshua Kislevitz, United Media’s Senior Vice President, Domestic Licensing. “As it continues its incredible growth, our goal is to enable kids to further their relationship with the world of Poptropica both online and offline with the right product and promotions.”

In Poptropica, kids create an avatar to explore a virtual world that engages them in narrative quests and online games. While there, kids can safely communicate and compete in head-to-head competition with other kids, collect objects, read digital books and comics. The world's content is developed under the creative direction of Jeff Kinney, author and illustrator of the bestselling book series Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
