Mattel, Bandai commit to Javits space

By Staff -- Gifts and Dec, 12/9/2008 3:10:00 PM

NEW YORK—Mattel and Bandai America will ditch offsite showrooms in order to exhibit exclusively in the Javits Center during the 2009 American International Toy Fair, according to the Toy Industry Association.

In the past, Mattel had a private midtown showroom as well as space at the Javits Center. Bandai America previously exhibited from a midtown showroom.

"On behalf of TIA, we are thrilled that Mattel and Bandai will have an increased, major presence at the 2009 Toy Fair,” said Carter Keithley, TIA president.

For 2009, Mattel has signed on for 20,000 square feet of private exhibit space in the Javits Center’s Galleria. In addition, it will maintain the 3,500 square feet of space it has taken in recent years on Javits’ Level 3.

“We’re looking forward to transporting our showroom experience to Javits and being in the epicenter of New York Toy Fair next year,” said Neil Friedman, Mattel Brands’ president.

Bandai America has committed to 1,800 square feet of exhibit space.

“The presence of these two major toy vendors at Toy Fair will make it that much more convenient for more than 13,000 buyers who come to find new products for their retail shelves,” said Marian Bossard, TIA’s vice president for meetings and events. “Having Mattel and Bandai under one Toy Fair roof will be a major attraction for buyers because they will not have to trek all over the City to meet with their suppliers.”

TIA expects more than 20,000 attendees, including 13,000 retail buyers from 86 countries, to attend the 2009 Toy Fair. The show takes place February 15-18.
