CENTURY CITY, Calif.—Alvin and The Chipmunks licensor Twentieth Century Fox Licensing & Merchandising has signed Jakks Pacific for toys based on the property, one of several new licensees.
Jakks will cast Alvin, Simon and Theodore along with the soon-to-be introduced Chipettes in a line of plush, figures, dolls, playsets and novelty toys. The deal with the toymaker “marks a cornerstone for a program that will also tap into the inherent musicality of the brand,” according to Fox Licensing.
The property’s push comes in advance of this December’s release of a new Chipmunks movie, Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, a follow up to 2007’s Alvin and the Chipmunks film, which grossed in excess of $360 million in worldwide box office sales.
Other new deals for this year’s film include JS Karaoke for karaoke products, HarperCollins for storybooks inspired by the movie and Bendon Publishing for color/activity and educational format books.
