Product Showcase: Toddler Toys

By Karyn M. Peterson -- Gifts and Dec, 3/17/2009 8:49:00 AM

This week’s Product Showcase features toddler toys from Boikido, Crayola, Haba USA, Imagiplay, Maxim Enterprise and Playskool.

Boikido Jumbo Cubes Wagon Blocks

Jumbo Fun
The Jumbo Cubes Wagon Blocks set ($69.99) for ages 18 months and up includes 21 vibrantly colored, jumbo building blocks, all tucked inside an easy-to-push wagon to encourage toddler’s walking. The set is part of the company’s eco-friendly line of toys, which is created with sustainable wood and non-toxic, water-based paints and packaged in recycled cardboard printed with soybean ink. The wooden toy line also includes musical toys, stackers, pull toys, games and puzzles.

Crayola TaDoodles Ta-Doodler

Doodle Days
The washable TaDoodles Ta-Doodler ($29.99) for ages 18 months and up, part of the new Crayola Beginnings Baby line, is a cute and cuddly soft character that inspires creativity. Using the enclosed red, green and blue TaDoodles Crayon Buddies—which are specially designed to fit little hands—toddlers can doodle all over the TaDoodler’s washable and reusable body, which wipes clean with a damp cloth. The Ta-Doodler also features two different musical modes.

Haba

Waddle & Walk

The Cory Caterpillar pull toy ($55) for ages 1 year and up helps stimulate crawling and walking in kids, who will be inclined to make it waddle across the floor on its six lopsided wheels. Cory Caterpillar is crafted of beech wood and includes a pull string, kaleidoscope, mirror and a little bell. Also new this year for toddlers are the Ducky Duck pull toy ($36), the Terry Train pull toy ($60) and the Tony Tractor push vehicle ($55).
Haba USA, Skaneateles, N.Y.

Imagiplay

Snail Of A Good Time

The Rolling Snail Sorter and activity toy ($29.99) for 18 months and up aims to challenge kids as it entertains them. The first level of activity reveals itself as toddlers pull the snail; its shell spins, tumbling the brightly colored blocks inside. Later, curious kids will discover that the blocks actually fit inside the holes. The eco-friendly set is crafted of plantation grown rubberwood. A Rolling Turtle Spinner and a Fruit Cutting Set are also available.

Maxim

Multi-task With Mommy

The wooden Mommy & Me Learning Cube ($29.99) combines five interactive toddler toys into one: a play clock with moveable hands, a shape sorter, an abacus, a magnetic wipe-off board with animal magnets and a removable wire bead maze. Each of the activities in the cube—part of Cookie Jar Entertainment’s licensed Mommy & Me toy line—is designed to develop kids’ hand-eye coordination and shape and color recognition as they play.

Playskool

Hungry Hippo
The Clipo Hippo ($20.99) for ages 18 months and up—the latest addition to the Clipo line of interlocking, peg-covered parts—is a wheeled, stackable building set on which toddlers can attach their Clipo creations (to the hippo’s head, back or wheels). The set includes 20 colorful Clipo pieces that store right inside the hippo, and features rolling wheels, open eyes and a drop-slot in the hippo’s mouth, which is ideal for put-and-take play.
Playskool, Pawtucket, R.I.

Kidding Around

Kids products that combine high play value and a design sensibility that blends with mom and dad's house are sure winners for specialty shops, who can market themselves as an alternative to cheap plastic imports and their problematic safety records.

EcoGreen

Green products have become more of a staple now. The products are not only good for the environment, today's collections also boast great design.

Just for Fun

Vendors' sense of fun was evident this summer with many offering light-hearted and fun accessories for the home and for the self.
